FOUNDER &
CREATIVE ARCHITECT

Nyxiris is a living House devoted to sensory literacy, atmospheric design, and narrative environments.

Founder Joanna Iris is a sensory and atmospheric installation artist. She is an alumna of Parker University. The House operates at the intersection of environmental psychology, ritual architecture, and long-form narrative systems.

Joanna’s work explores how environments shape perception, memory, and behavior, drawing on formal study in body-based perception, environmental psychology, and long-form sensory systems, and translating research, material study, and narrative structure into immersive spatial expressions.

Form shapes feeling. Atmosphere carries meaning.

Her work bridges artistic practice, research, and applied sensory methodology, positioning Nyxiris at the intersection of contemporary art, environmental design, and long-form narrative systems.

HOUSE ORIGIN

Nyxiris did not begin as a commercial endeavor, but as a response to what was absent in contemporary sensory culture: slowness, ritual, and spatial depth.

Before fragrance became a wearable commodity, it functioned as an atmospheric and architectural medium, communal, ceremonial, and embedded within space. Nyxiris reclaims this lineage through contemporary material practice, environmental research, and narrative design.

Each work is developed deliberately, released in limited cycles, and intended to be encountered within architectural, cultural, and institutional contexts rather than consumed.

THE PRACTICE

Joanna Iris’s practice unfolds across atmospheric installations, site-responsive commissions, and long-form narrative environments.

The work is research-driven and materially focused, integrating sensory literacy, environmental psychology, ritual methodology, and architectural timing.

Rather than producing objects, the practice constructs atmospheric conditions, environments designed to unfold through duration, interaction, and presence.

The work operates within architectural, institutional, and cultural contexts and is developed selectively in alignment with space, scale, and intent.

Projects range from intimate site-responsive environments to large-scale atmospheric installations developed in dialogue with architecture, context, and public engagement.

THE HOUSE & ITS DIVISIONS

THE HOUSE

Nyxiris functions as a living House through which multiple expressions of the practice are articulated.

These include:

  • The Atelier, atmospheric installations and environmental works developed for architecturally significant spaces

  • Atmospheric Narrative Residency, a private, long-form engagement focused on cultivating cohesive atmospheric identity through narrative and sensory frameworks

  • Atmospheric Commissions, site-responsive installations developed in dialogue with architecture, context, and scale

  • Publishing, writing and research extending the conceptual framework of the practice through books and long-form texts

Each division shares a unified methodology while engaging different audiences, scales, and formats, from spatial installations to long-form narrative and research-based publishing.

WRITING & PUBLISHING

Alongside her installation practice, Joanna is the founder of Nyxiris Publishing House, where she writes on sensory literacy, environmental influence, embodied perception, and narrative architecture.

Her writing draws on formal knowledge of pain, massage, muscular and fascial systems, and embodied desire, examining how the body and nervous system experience space, memory, and meaning.

This work extends into The Veil of Nyxiris, a mythic retelling and long-form narrative world developed across an extensive multi-book arc. Within this framework, psychological touchpoints are woven into story and atmosphere to support resilience, adaptability, and a gentler approach to transformation, inviting readers toward integration and self-trust through narrative rather than instruction.

Writing and practice evolve together, each informing the other across spatial, somatic, and narrative forms.
